Role Description
| VP of Engineering |
An executive leader who translates company strategy into engineering execution, owns org-wide performance metrics, and drives organizational design. They ensure every team member understands and buys into business goals, identify areas for process evolution, and gather stakeholders to resolve issues. They clearly articulate personnel and cultural needs to advance the engineering organization, break down business directives into technology goals, and partner closely with Product leadership on strategy. |

The chief technical executive who is accountable for the entire engineering organization’s performance and defines and adapts engineering culture, strategy, and operations. They serve as the primary technical advisor to the CEO and as the primary partner to the Head of Product. They provide technical perspective for company strategy, represent the technical side in board meetings and M&A discussions, and act as CISO. They set the 12-24 month technical vision, own the excellence bar across career paths, and collaborate with Staff engineers and VP/Directors to drive outcomes. |

Responsibilities
| VP of Engineering |
- Owns accountability for metrics-based performance for the engineering org (eg. retention, acquisition, throughput, quality).
- Collaborates with Product leadership to define strategy across multiple teams and helps define org-level measurable outcomes.
- Can drive all internal and external communication.
- Collaborates with staff engineers to resolve cross-teams dependencies and orchestrate delivery.
- Drives engineering operations strategy.

- Accountable for the entire engineering organization’s performance (Listings, GBV, take rate, throughput, quality).
- Defines and adapts engineering culture, strategy, and operations.
- Leads major innovation bets and R&D allocation, and contributes to critical initiatives personally to de-risk them.
- Leads internal talent development toward Staff, Sr Staff, Directors and VP positions in alignment with organizational needs.
- Provides support to win enterprise/large deals, collaborates closely with Sales teams.
- Provides support to drive retention efforts, collaborates closely with CX, Strops teams.
- Accountable for technical leadership, architecture decisions, and technical direction, closely collaborating with Staff engineers.
- Accountable for org structure, talent strategy, internal communication, and engineering operations, closely collaborating with VP/Directors.
- Accountable for histing COGS and engineering SaaS spending
- Tie breaker on architecture, technical strategy, and capacity planning
- Tie breaker on team topology and OBT boundaries and major changes to engineering org structure
- Owns and evolves the Engineering Strategy framework; final decider on major build vs buy decisions, with exception of the CEO
- Owns major technical partnership decisions; leads technical evaluation for strategic partnerships
- Acts as CISO: owns security architecture, policies, compliance audits, incident response
